On Tuesday, August 29 at 4:30 pm Eastern Time, our classmate Dana Bevan will be in Casual Conversation with us on the subject of Transgender Science. She has provided the following:
Dana Jennett Bevan, born Thomas Bevan, is a member of the Dartmouth Class of 1969, and is an expert on the causative factors involved in being transgender. While at Dartmouth, she majored in psychology, played varsity football, participated in Army ROTC and was a member of the Alpha Delta fraternity. She served 8 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and 3 years as a Captain on active duty. She received her Ph.D. in physiological psychology at Princeton and conducted research for military and intelligence applications. She knew from age 5 that she was transgender but did not begin transition until the fall of the Berlin Wall. For the past 30 years she has conducted research on transgender causation and behavior and has published 4 books, as well as articles, pod casts and blogposts on the subject. She now lives in Atlanta and runs her own business. She is currently working on a book about free will as a causative factor. She will provide a short overview of what is known about transgender causation and answer questions. She answers to the name of “Jen” and does not care about pronouns.
Jen is a member and former Director of the US Association for Professional Health, the US affiliate of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, which sets Standards of Care for Transgender People.
For those of you who have good memories, you may recall reading about Jen in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, May-June 2017 issue. As a reminder, here is a link to the piece: https://dartmouthalumnimagazine.com/articles/dana-thomas-bevan-69 .
Finally, here is a more extensive discussion by Jen by way of an oral history interview created in December 2018 and maintained by the College: https://exhibits.library.dartmouth.edu/s/SpeakOut/item/703 .
Bring your interest and your questions for what will be an important and valuable opportunity to learn about Transgender Science and the community this science concerns.
Usual rules apply. If you want to join this Casual Conversation send me an email at arthur.fergenson@ansalaw.com by the Saturday before, August 26.
Before you head for the road for Labor Day weekend relaxation, spend time with Dana and your other classmates to re-invigorate your mind.
