The following proposal was sent to the Class of '69 in late April 2006:
Proposal:
We propose that the Class of 1969 adopt the remaining women exchange student alumnae.
(The Alumni Office has confirmed that Classes have this authority.)
Sometimes the impact of something that seems small in the moment turns out to be substantial. The ripple effect. Here are some musings on my accidental role in recognizing and adopting a group of pioneering women into the Class of 1969.
As our Class Web-ster, I always struggle to find fresh content for our Class web site. One evening in the early spring of 2005 not long after after having rebuilt our site, I was looking at my Dartmouth-era photos and hoping for inspiration. I came across a picture of me with Binky Wood in the basement of Foley House:
Victor Hugo Chaltain died October 29 of a heart attack while clearing the Hanover High School field of rain water before his son’s final football game of the season. More information can be found in a Valley News article www.vnews.com/10302006/3422782.htm. The following information is taken from that article.
The following obituary appeared recently in the Valley News of White River Junction, and is reprinted with their permission.
Oscar A. Romero, 57, died at home Thursday, April 6, 2006. For the past few months he had been battling pancreatic cancer.
Clifford W. Mills, Jr., died in Jacksonville, Florida on August 16, 2015. He was born in Connecticut in 1947, obtained his B.A. from Dartmouth College (the infamous class of 1969), and his Master's from Boston University. His career at John Wiley & Sons, Publishers, spanned over 35 years; he was an editor of many diverse disciplines, a publisher for the sciences, and, in his later years, a freelance project manager. He moved from Westport, Connecticut to New Hampshire to raise his son in the magical town of Meriden, where he and his wife Rosemary lived for 25 years.
John R. Verb of Somerville, NJ, died March 22, 2005. John had resided in New Jersey nearly all his life, born in New Brunswick, raised in Helmetta and lived in Somerville the past 20 years. After graduation, John served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant on the ammunition ship USS Nitro AE-23. He received his M.B.A. from Stanford University in 1974. John was a builder who owned and operated Moorehouse Construction Co. in Somerville, and was a member of the Somerville Architectural Review Board.
Right around the time of our reunion, Harry, a frequent contributor to The ’69 Times, died while running, one of his favorite activities. The following is the obituary which Steve Larson wrote for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
Thomas William Maddron died February 10 after dealing with his long term illness with courage and grace. He was living in North Bend, Oregon at the time.
We do not have a published obituary for Robert Nichols.
