Jeffrey Sherwood Burnett, age 76 of Littleton MA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 28th after a long illness.
He was born in Rochester, NY in October 1947 to Janet Burnett (Palmer) and Sherwood "Joe" Burnett.
Jeff grew up in Scituate, MA. He attended Thayer Academy and throughout his life, kept close connections with his classmates as their class agent and Alumni Board Member. He then attended Dartmouth College where he received a BA. At Dartmouth, he enrolled in Navy ROTC. Jeff proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1974, achieving the rank of Commander. After honorably leaving the Navy, he attended Harvard School of Business where he received his MBA.
Jeff's career finally brought him to Open Geospatial Consortium, where for 20 years he was VP-CFO and served on the Board of Directors. He made many wonderful and dear friends here and globally during his many travels abroad.
Serving as Scoutmaster for Littleton Troop 20, Jeff enjoyed many great adventures along with his son, Evan. These included High Adventures hiking at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, sailing in the Abaco Islands and canoeing down the Missouri River following the path of Lewis and Clark.
As an avid, amateur Genealogist, Jeff connected with many distant relatives via Facebook. This interest led to a trip of a lifetime to New Zealand with his daughter Sarah where newly discovered distant relatives became close family.
Jeff leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Janine (Baillargeon), his son Evan of Littleton MA and daughter Sarah of Salem, MA.
He is predeceased by his parents Janet and Joe Burnett, and his younger brother Jonathan (1953-1957).
Jeff also leaves behind numerous friends, colleagues, cousins, nieces, nephews; as well as grand nieces and nephews who fondly knew him as "Uncle Goofball." His great smile, kind heart and enormous sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
