Stephen A. Davies died November 8, 2010 in Pelham, New York. While in high school Steve’s family moved to Beirut, Lebanon where he attended the American Community School. His experiences there would have lifetime influence on him. Following graduation from Dartmouth he studied Arabic at Princeton then served two years with the U.S. Army. He later received a Master’s degree in both Middle Eastern Studies and Journalism from the University of Michigan. In 1975 Steve returned to Beirut where he reported on the outbreak of civil war. The following year was a turning point for Steve when classmate Bob Robbins introduced him to his future wife, Joanne Hawkins. That year they were married and moved to Northern Virginia where he worked as a business journalist in Washington, D.C. for the Bureau of National Affairs and Reuters. Twenty years later he moved to Pelham, New York to work as the morning financial editor for CNN. Steve introduced and taught Arabic courses at Westchester Community College and was active in many local organizations. He is survived by his wife Joanne, children Philip and Justine, his mother Nancy, two siblings and was predeceased by his father William, Dartmouth class of `44.
