Bruce passed away on December 31, 2021 and the only obituary available at this time is from Echovita: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bruce Henry (Nyack, New York), who passed away on December 31, 2021, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends."
Bruce Hubert Henry died unexpectedly on December 31, 2021 at the age of 74 in his home in Upper Nyack, NY.
Bruce grew up in Gloversville, NY born to parents John Robert Henry and Vivian Lynaugh Henry on August 8, 1947. He attended Gloversville High School where he exceled in math and played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Dartmouth College where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, defensive end on the football team and graduated in 1969.
Bruce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and teacher. He taught for 46 years, 37 of which were at Scarsdale High School where he was known as everybody’s favorite math teacher. His students were always impressed with his way of making algebraic equations fun, crafting the most memorable test questions, and his one-line zingers.
One of Bruce’s favorite places to spend time was the St. Lawrence River, specifically Alexandria Bay, NY, where he spent his summers growing up and where he created countless memories with his wife, children and extended family and friends. At “camp” he taught his daughters how to fish, catch frogs, waterski, dock a boat, and play a wicked game of ping pong. Lifelong skills never to be forgotten.
Bruce was a member of the Nyack Field Club for 39 years. He served as pool chairman and house chairman during his time as a member. He enjoyed tennis, paddle, swimming and a drink, or 2, on the bar porch.
Another favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. Known as “Boppy” he was adored by them all. He loved playing chess, tic tac toe, legos and most of all, giving them math problems to solve. He also enjoyed watching them play sports, just as he did with his daughters during their years of swimming with the NFC Stingrays and Nyack High School tennis and lacrosse teams. He never missed a game or a swim meet and was their proudest fan.
And of course, Bruce loved being with his loving wife of 45 years, Debbie. Whether it be trips to their favorite spot in Florida, walks at Rockland Lake, sitting by the pool at NFC, or simply enjoying a glass of wine by the fire at home, he treasured his time with her.
Bruce was a gentle, quiet and kind man with a way with words and sense of humor like no other. His carefree and loving spirit will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He truly touched the lives of all who knew him.
Bruce is survived by his wife Deborah; daughters Jessica and Courtney; sons-in-law Nathan Blodgett and Daniel Concannon; grandchildren Emma, Jackson, Henry, and Kathleen; siblings Karen Glover (Jack), Katherine Licardo and Brian Henry; sister-in-law, Julie Hermsen and brother-in law, Michael Hermsen. He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Vivian Henry, brother Robert, mother-in-law Patricia Decker and father-in-law Joseph Decker.
