Bob Lefkowits died recently almost five years after being paralyzed in a body surfing accident following a career involving at least nine start-up companies in Silicon Valley. The following was posted by his son, Brad, shortly after Bob died June 28, as an entry on his CarePages site.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must make a final update to my father’s carepage.
“Robert Mark Lefkowits, known affectionately to all of you as Bob, has passed away.
“After tenaciously fighting for almost exactly five years since his injury, he succumbed to complications on Sunday evening. My mother, brother, sister, and myself were all by his side for his final moments. While he fought as long as he could, his final day was peaceful and he was not in pain.
“My family would like to thank all of you who shared your thoughts, love, and support with us through this ordeal. The incredible response to this carepage, and the many of you who have been there in so many ways for my father and mother over the last five years is a wonderful affirmation of how much they are loved.
“I would personally like to thank and commend my mother for her truly inspirational courage, strength, and devotion. This could not possibly have been any more difficult a challenge, and she could not have met it with any more grace, dignity, and love. Mom, you are amazing.
“In lieu of flowers, we are asking those who can to make a donation to the Christopher Reeve foundation (www.christopherreeve.org). Dedicated to researching a cure, and providing resources to SCI patients and their families, we hope this will help to ease the burden of others who are facing, and will face the incredible struggle that comes along with such an overwhelming injury.
“While my father was a fervent atheist, he appreciated every single thought and prayer that was sent his way throughout this ordeal. I encourage those of you who wish to reflect on his life to do so while doing what he loved most. Go on a hike with a loved one, appreciate nature and share some quality time with those who mean most to you.
“From the very bottom of our hearts, my entire family thanks all of you for your love and support.”
Bradley Robert Lefkowits
