Ochs, Fred (12/31/2015)

Fred Ochs died on December 31, 2015, in Los Angeles, aged 68. Born in Massachusetts, son of Frederick Walter Ochs, Sr., and Inez Cardinali Ochs. Fred has a vast community of friends and family that will miss him. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Koch Ochs, her three children, his mother in law and a new grandson. He is also survived by an aunt, two sisters, Marianna Estabrooke and Ernestine Reisman, a niece, three nephews and two grand-nieces.

I just learned of the passing of our classmate, Fred Ochs. I still somehow recall that he was from South Berwick, Maine. I knew him as one of the Tech Department guys at WDCR. I lost track of Fred after D, but he later found me on Facebook. He had put aside an earlier career and went to Hollywood/LA to pursue a life in his dream, acting. Who knew? He found small parts in TV shows and movies and kept at it. Fred frequently emailed updates of his life, his many hikes (with photographs attached), and his career, and he was always urging me to watch his next TV appearance. I discerned from his emails and from his Facebook posts that he had gathered quite a circle of friends in his new Hollywood life, and that he was extremely happy that he had made the change. I did not realize that he was undergoing any health problems, and I was quite taken aback by seeing this news via his friend Leslie on Facebook this evening.

Fred was a quiet, low-key guy I always thought was pretty special.
